Hello sir, the following information will help explain why each of our networks
needs specific routing types as the 3 buildings are unique and have different network
requirements. Let me start off by giving you a brief summary of the choices we could
use which are static, default, and dynamic routing.
Static Routing is when the administrator manually adds routes to the routing table of a router. This method is not suitable for large networks however it makes routing table maintenance in smaller networks easier, especially if no growth is in sight. Default Routing is where routers are configured to send packets towards a single router. This is great for small networks or for networks with a single entry and exit point. It is not commonly used. Dynamic Routing automatically propagates routing information. This is the most widely used method. It is also the most complicated method of routing. Some advantages of dynamic routing include its ability to handle large networks and that it automatically adapts topology to reroute network traffic if needed.
Small branch office that is connected to an Internet Service Provider via one router- Static Routing– because it does not expect to grow at all in the next 3 years and its small size. Easy to use and manage.
Larger office building with three routers to interconnect within the building- Dynamic Routing- Due to the network’s large size and the number of routers that are involved. Even though no growth is expected in the next 3 years, it would be smart to implement this now.
Main Headquarters- Dynamic Routing– Due to the fast growth and change of the business and network and its automatic rerouting capabilities.
Summary- We see that for the 3 buildings, we will need a mix of Dynamic and Static routing to tailor to each network’s individual needs. Both the Main Headquarters and the larger office building will use Dynamic Routing due to the large size of the networks and the need to satisfy future expansion requirements. This will make the networks easily managed and upgraded. For the smaller office, Static routing will be used due to its small size and no need for upgrading for at least 3 years. This will make the network easily managed and save the money and time that Dynamic routing will require.
