Hello, and thank you for viewing my blog. My name is William Donaldson, and I work as a system administrator in Colorado. I have been in the IT industry for around 7 years, starting with freelance website development, then working my way up from an IT specialist for an internal IT department to an IT Manager for an MSP that my team and I built in Nebraska.
From Bellevue University, I hold a bachelor’s degree in information technology and a master’s degree in cybersecurity, with a 3.9 GPA for each. I also hold a technical degree/certificate in munitions technology from the United States Air Force. Furthermore, I have the following credentials/certifications/courses completed: Google IT Support Specialization, Google Cybersecurity Professional, IBM Cybersecurity Fundamentals, IBM Data Fundamentals, IBM Project Management Fundamentals, IBM Explore Emerging Tech, IBM Cloud Computing Fundamentals, IBM Professional Skills, NSE 3 Network Security Associate, FCA-FortiGate 7.4 Operator, Fortinet Certified Associate in Cybersecurity, and Fortinet Certified Fundamentals in Cybersecurity. I am currently studying for my CompTIA Security+ and Network+.
I have studied electrical engineering in the past, getting to one semester remaining from completing an associate’s degree before the school, unfortunately, closed (ITT Tech, dumb decision on my part). Before that, I studied graphic design in Connecticut, shortly before I realized how the future of AI and software would make the skills rather obsolete. I served in the United States Air Force as a Munitions Technician, where I was stationed at multiple stateside bases and in South Korea. My father, also a veteran of the Air Force, traveled for his career as well; this gave me the chance to live all across the United States, Germany, and England. I am passionate about all forms of technology, powerlifting, cars, and most importantly, writing.

This blog started as a school project but began to take on a life of its own as I found keeping it updated with current IT news and topics enabled me to strengthen my knowledge of rising trends and evolving best practices in the tech world. At the end of college, I found that although I was proficient in my abilities as an IT professional, I had little idea of how to utilize them properly. “Shoptalk,” defined as a conversation about one’s occupation or business at an informal or social occasion, is a crucial aspect in all professions that one needs to excel in. While college and certifications can prepare you with what you need to do the job you are hired for, talking with your co-workers or your tech-savvy boss can still be daunting. So, this blog is designed to convert the 1s and 0s of the tech world into an easy to comprehend language. Included in this blog are multiple sections that can aid an IT professional in their career, ranging from general and advanced tech knowledge to tips for working in groups (group theory/interpersonal communication).
The primary focus of this website is cybersecurity, as it is my current career path, but I find that those who do not stay current with the present, end up in the past. Knowledge requires continuous action and research, so the articles I write will be diverse. I hope that reading this blog, and its 650+ posts, helps you as much as writing it did for me. Thank you for your time.
William Donaldson
