I have been needing new tires for my 2017 BMW 750i and finally found a set I like that was also discounted! I was going to upgrade my rims in the process, but I think I will just repair, and powder coat mine as I like the style, just not the road rash. In the end, I went with 245/45R-19 Riken Raptor VR SLs, as the value was hard to pass on due to how often I need to change my car’s tires. While this is a cheaper brand, I had them on my old 2016 Subaru WRX STI and loved them, so hopefully the experience is the same on such a large vehicle. I also decided to ditch my run flats as the ride quality suffers a lot, and due to the fact that I have AAA, just in case.
My Review:
The Riken Raptor VR SL tires offer a budget-friendly option for your 2017 BMW 750i xDrive, especially at a discounted price of $133.41 each (got a deal). Designed as a sport-touring, V-speed rated, grand touring all-season tire, they aim to provide balanced performance across various driving conditions.

Performance in Wet and Normal Driving Conditions:
The Raptor VR features an all-season tread compound with a symmetric design, incorporating a continuous center rib for consistent road contact and improved steering response. Multiple lateral notches and four wide circumferential grooves enhance water evacuation, reducing the risk of hydroplaning and maintaining traction on wet surfaces. In dry conditions, these design elements contribute to stable handling and reliable performance.
User experiences vary; some drivers report satisfactory performance in both dry and wet conditions, noting that the tires handle well and offer good value for the price. However, others have observed increased road noise, and a softer feel compared to premium brands, raising concerns about long-term durability.
Comparison to Run-Flat Tires:
Run-flat tires, standard on many luxury vehicles like the BMW 750i xDrive, allow continued driving for a limited distance after a puncture, enhancing safety and convenience. However, they often result in a firmer ride and higher replacement costs.
Switching to non-run-flat tires like the Riken Raptor VR can improve ride comfort and reduce expenses but necessitates carrying a spare tire or repair kit to address potential flats.

2-Year Tire Road Hazard Protection Plan:
The inclusion of a 2-year Tire Road Hazard Protection plan adds value, offering coverage against unforeseen damages such as punctures or impact-related issues. This plan can mitigate repair or replacement costs during the coverage period, providing peace of mind for drivers concerned about road hazards.
Additional Considerations:
- Treadwear and Longevity: Some users have expressed concerns about the rapid wear of budget-friendly tires like the Riken Raptors, suggesting that while initial performance may be satisfactory, durability over time could be an issue.
- Noise Levels: There are reports of increased road noise with these tires, which may affect cabin comfort, especially on longer drives.
- Snow and Ice Performance: The Raptor VR is designed to handle light snow; however, performance in deeper snow or icy conditions may be limited. Drivers in regions with harsh winters should consider this when selecting tires.
In summary, the Riken Raptor VR SL tires present an economical choice for the BMW 750i xDrive, delivering competent performance in dry and wet conditions. While they may not match the durability and noise reduction of premium brands or the convenience of run-flat tires, the cost savings and included 2-year protection plan offer a compelling value proposition for budget-conscious drivers.
Overall, for the few miles I have actually had to chance to drive, I am absolutely impressed with the ride quality of these tires, especially since I took the risk of purchasing some budget options. It may be just the swap from run-flats, but it really feels like I am floating in the air as I am barreling down the highway. We will have to see how long these tires hold up, but I am looking forward to getting my rims powder coated after I spend some time repairing some road rash. On to the next project!
